June with SYMT

Faith in Action Awards

This month has seen SYMT head down to the capital for some training on the Faith in Action Award which we launched with Bishop Mark at the mini Dash School Mass at St.Ambrose School, Hale Barns. This exciting national initiative is coming to the Diocese in the next Academic Year. It looks to be a great way to engage young people in their faith and to bridge the gap between Parishes and Schools

All things Mass!

We also attended the Big Church Day out festival in Capesthorne Hall Cheshire, where Bishop Mark celebrated Mass. Big Church Day out is a huge ecumenical event of music and prayer. It is a real honour to be able to celebrate Mass in and amongst so many wonderful Christians.  We have also attended a few meetings on the Eucharist Congress, Adoremus event in September. The Youth event connected to this is going to be epic! The team gathered at St. Ambrose High, to hear a very inspiring talk on the Eucharist by Father Oliver Treanor.

Parish level

At the start of the month the team helped launch a Youth Alpha group in St. Joseph’s Upton, and supported the Night Fever evening at St. Francis Church Chester, inviting people in off the streets to come to light a candle in the church to reflect and take a short time out of their routine. In St. Luke’s Frodsham we delivered some training on 'What is Youth Ministry' and 'How to set up a youth group'. If you want to set up something in your parish just let us know.

Brightlights Festival and Celebrate Birmingham

It was a very busy end to June with the team split over two events. Catherine was asked to deliver a key note for the Celebrate Birmingham event about the weekend's theme "See I am doing a new thing". Catherine was particularly asked as she also got married this June - definitely a new thing! Meanwhile Sophie and Dave delivered a workshop on “discovering your story” which will equip young people with the tools to share their testimony with others at the Brightlights festival in Alton Castle. Over this weekend we have met hundreds of young adults and adults from across the country. What a joy!

BLOG ‘To The Heights!’ Our Patron Saint Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati

‘To The Heights!’ Blessed Pier Giorgio is a great inspiration for Catholics, especially young people. He is such a good example that he was chosen as one of the Shrewsbury Youth Mission Team’s patron saints, along with Pope Saint John Paul II and St Therese of Lisieux. His short life was lived in service for […]

REFLECTION Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

‘Little girl, I say to you arise.’ When I read this passage I am struck by the tenderness of Jesus towards the girl. The scene is chaos; the people gathered are distraught, they have just watched their friend’s daughter die. Yet Jesus enters the situation totally calm, his focus on the child. I love the […]
